Hi Ann
The best route is to go by personal recommendation as training providers vary greatly in their support of trainee assessors.
Costs can go up to several £100's so shop around.
Two alternatives are: Sign-up with a local college (mine cost £48 as an evening class) but you will have to find your own candidates and have them registered with a training provider. Get a job with a training provider as a trainee assessor and get paid while you work towards your A1. Beware of companies that load too many candidates on assessors and demand impossible targets be met!
Hope this helps. :)
