I am about to start an assessors course.Could anyone tell me if I can assess related subjects to the one I have the nvq in,or do I need some qualification in every field ?
I am a foster carer and wonder if I could assess in any other social group,or do I need nvq's in each subject.
I would be very grateful for any advice.

Hi Tony

You can assess in any area that you have occupational competence in. That basically means you must have done the job yourself for a reasonable period before you can assess in it.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for getting in touch.By occupational competence,do you have to gain nvq's to prove it ? Sorry for driving you mad.
Many thanks,
Tony

No,

It just means you have to be competent in the job. Competence is inferred or proved by the length of time you spent in the job (the criteria is laid down in the standards for each particular NVQ) or qualifications gained whilst doing the job.
The awarding body has to be satisfied as to your occupational competence so what happens is your CV is sent to the EV for him/her to check, obviously your CPD would play a big part as well.

Hope that clarifies the situation.
