Hi Lyndsay, Sorry I can't help you. I just joined the forum recently with loads of questions. Someone got back to me after a while, so I'm sure someone will be along soon with the information you require.

I hope to start making plans soon to do my A1 course. So no doubt I'll be a regular on here looking for help, support and inspiration!!

Hope to see you around.

Hi Lyndsay

We are not able to send you examples, there is a book that you can purchase from any well known book shop with reagrds to A1 standards, this contains various examples.
Good luck

Hi Lyndsay

The thing about assessment plans is that each training provider has their own format so sending you one of mine would not really be of much help.
Have a chat with your internal verifier or the qualified assessor who will be countersigning all your paperwork - particularly assessment decisions. They should be providing you with all the required documents and how to complete them.
You say you have just started the A1, have you got your candidates yet? Have they had their induction? - Have YOU had YOUR induction?
Don't waste your cash on books, they are not needed. The process is very straightforward once you get your head round it.

Basically, an assessment plan is a document drawn up between yourself and the candidate in which you agree what you are going to assess, when and how.
At the start of the NVQ, you should agree a broad assessment plan for the NVQ and then break that down at each visit where you discuss and agree what needs to be done in preparation for the next visit and during the next visit.

Am I making sense?

Hi Dave,
How do you cross-reference the units for the first or second piece of evidence? By using the standards? There are so many standards, NOS, Care, Skills for Care, which standards apply for the NVQ L2?

Hi Caraibrit

It seems as if you are not very clear about the NVQ process.

I presume you are referring to your candidates' evidence. The standards that apply to the "NVQ L2" are the standards for the NVQ that the candidates have signed up to do. This will have been completed by your training provider and detailed in each candidate's ILP.

You will obviously have to be occupationally competent in the area you are to assess.

Good assessment practice is to sit side by side with your candidate, both having your copy of the standards open at the relevant unit.
You have the evidence and the candidate has the tick sheet.
You then work through the evidence, agreeing with the candidate which items in the unit it covers, recording that on the evidence while the candidate records it on he tick sheet.
While going through this process, it is easy to indicate to the candidate where he/she could gain further evidence and also give you the opportunity to ask clarifying questions to cover some additional points.

Don't forget to work through all the units which the evidence may cover rather than use the mind numbing system of assessing one unit at a time.

You may not feel confident at the start to pick up a piece of evidence and assess it straight away with your candidate which is understandable. What you can do is tell the candidate that you will assess the evidence on your next visit and then work through it at your own pace prior to your next meeting.

I would advise you to get your countersigning assessor to review your assessment decisions fairly early on so if you go down the wrong track it won't be a major task to correct it.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. I've sat down with my candidate and we loosely went through a-d of hsc21 during the break. I've planned as you recommended, to have two observations per unit, with a two-week interval between each unit. The process is getting a litle clearer, I have given the candidate time to research, work on an example for each PC and KS, those which showed a struggle to match with practice I though I theory sample might suffice. I am hoping to get my counter-assessor to check my observations and review plan sometime this week.
