As an assessor I had many domiciliary carers wanting to do L3, unfortunately their job role did not put them in a position to get the evidence needed so I had to advise against it. Also, the unit titles say " individuals", plural- if a carer only worked with 1 service user then again, we said no. What units have you chosen?

Hi Dee Dee
Kind of you to reply.

Unlike NVQ the EDI L3 (Diploma) does not seem to require authorisation ofr candidates working with only 1 client. in fact the personal assistant role is now given with a combination of Units including
OPTION UNITS
B
Understand models of disability
Principles of self directed support
C
Provide support to maintain and develop skills for everyday life
Support individuals to access and use services and facilities
Support individuals to live at home
Support individuals to manage their finances
Support individuals to access and manage direct payments
Support individuals to deal with personal relationship problems
Emergency first aid skills

With changes form NVQ I have needed to re-engage customers on this issue as it is indeed a challenge to assess when companionship and or personal care is the basis of the role. The employer's expectation of quick and complete progress for candidates working solo, with just 1 client, naturally, depends on good motivation and other client experience - so is sometimes less problematic.

Look forward to hearing more on this.
Andy

I look at the unit Emergency First aid skills for our candidates, but unless you have a service user who will need ist aid, and that can be observed by your assessor, how can you achieve the unit?

I other units look good, and I wish you luck with your diploma
