Hello o/
Are you undertaking a level 2 or 3?
There's not allot of difference between abuse and malpractice in regards as to how you should act if you suspect it. If you are undertaking a level 3, then this is aimed more at people who are in a senior role. To avoid malpractice senior care staff should be familiar with current safe practices and ensure that staff under their supervision have up to date training and most importantly are carrying out these methods, rather than using "quicker" unsafe practices.
If you suspect abuse or unsafe practices is happening to a person in your care then you would have a duty of care to ensure that your patient/resident/service user is protected from harm and to report this information.
If for, example you suspected one patient was abusing another (and both were mobile) it would be best to call another member of staff to stay with your patient, whilst you contacted your manager and started filling in an incident form.
Your manager should be able to advise you on company policy from there on. In the majority of cases (depending on severity of abuse) the police may need to be informed, the Care and Social Services Inspectorate and the next of kin.
Hope this helps |
