Hi coco,

I get my candidates to gather evidence for 'a' and 'b' as they work on other units. They do this by, for example, stating how and why they treated the child or young person with equality and respect as they supported them to manage their challenging behaviour (HSC 326) or how and why they gave them choices in group activities (HSC 323).

For 'c' you could write a reflective account of an incident of bullying or abuse - it doesn't need to be a major incident, name calling or teasing would do. You can also include some of the PCs with evidence for other units such as warning the children about personal safety as they do activities.

Hope that helps

Aunty Sue

Hello Aunty Sue, I need to observe 1 unit and submit all my work by mid March (it's a long story that I am not happy about but as the course was free I am not going to complain). I am so confused as to which unit is the easiest and quickest to gain evidence. I am contemplating on hsc32, 33 or should I do a holistic obs on unit 312 touching on all 8 units? having said that, I am not feeling very confident and I do feel anxious and nervous. I will be shadowing an experienced assessor next week and meet my 2 candidates, so hopefully I will feel better once I get started but as I stated, time is not on my side. (I am doing CYP).
I look forward to your reply.

Hi Pasha,

HSC 32 would be a good choice as health and safety is involved in all activities, its easy to plan and its fairly straightforward to observe.

HSC 33 would be more difficult as development is ongoing. For example, you might observe a candidate discussing a training need with their supervisor, they then need to find/arrange a training course, undertake the training and then later discuss the benefits with their advisor - it takes time.

HSC 312 is OK but can be difficult to plan for. For example, the candidate might plan activities to develop self esteem or discuss a YPs needs with them but you need an appropriate response from the YP to cover some of the criteria.

A lot depends on the sort of setting you are going into as you might find one of the options to be a good choice.

You will get a better idea after shadowing the experienced assessor. Ask for his/her advice.

Don't worry its normal to be nervous. Let me know how you get on.

Hope that helps

Aunty Sue
