Hi everyone;

We were told today our medication system is changing from blister packs to dosette boxes and just wondered if any other home use them and do they find drugs rounds faster, do they like using them or not??

Any info would be helpful

Hello,
That is quite unusual, more often it's the other way round!
Personally I don't like dossett boxes, all medication for one time of day are in one compartment so if a client refuses to take one tablet you may not know what it is, if doctor stops one medication half way through week you have to attempt to identify which tablet he/she has stopped, tablets are easier to drop when getting them out. They may make drugs round faster but they won't make them safer!
Ideally each medication should be placed in separate medicine pot and offered individually to client, this would be very difficult with a dossett box.
The only advantage I can see is that they don't take up so much room in meds cabinet or trolley! Not the best reason to change from a really safe sysytem.

if the dossette box contains several tablets then you have to identify and count, sometimes if they have been dispensed by a third party they might have put in a extra tablet by mistake , count and identify then count what is stated on the recording sheet to make sure it tallies....maybe more work but if people have been allocated the duty then its not something you should feel you have to rush over. have you been told why the system is changing?

Hello,
See above replies.
Also remember person is self medicating so you should not be putting tablets in dossett, they should. You can sit with them and support them.
