My friend contacted me Thursday, he works for a nursing home in the midlands.
While working his night shift and after the initial onset of a Norovirus outbreak within the home, he began to projectile vomit and sadly messed himself.

The nurse in charge refused him to leave the building as they were short staffed, so without a change of cloths, he continued to work till the end of his shift. He was then off work obviously with the virus himself. He recieved a phone call from the admin at work telling him he needed to meet with the works vehical and pass a faecal sample for the home to test!

He got told by email from a co worker that any staff that were off sick would have to write a 1000 word essay on Infection control.

Now he has just found out that only certain members of staff that went ill with the virus need write the essay.

How can this still happen nowadays and the firm he works for are disgusting at best.

Hello,
Have only just seen this and not sure I believe what I'm reading.
First off, refusing him permission to leave building is appalling. Would this nurse compel patients to sit in their own mess. It was abusive and bullying.
OK about faecal sample, thought test would be done by independent organisation though.
And the essay!! You're having a laugh. How old are these workers? 10? All refuse, what is the point of an essay. I'm sure everyone followed all infection control procedures and instead of punishing people managers could have used this outbreak to re visit their procedures and instigated extra training.
Maybe he could bring the topic up at a staff meeting?
