Hi Caroline - the knowledge specs are not meant to answered as questions, so there should be no need for workbooks. Are you an assessor? You should be able to link some knowledge to the observations, some should be covered in reflective accounts and any gaps can be covered by professional discussion or asking oral questions. It is not considered "good practice" to give lists of questions to answer.

I am doing my A1 at the moment, I have linked some of the knowledge into my observations but have not been able to do all of it. My assessor suggested that I used workbooks with my candidates as they woulld be able to carry this work out themselfs as it is not allways possible to meet with them due to shift work (nights) and work loads. I have used professional discssions before so maybe I will cover the knowledge through this.

Don't forget reflective accounts - if you give your learners clear guidance on how to write them they will provide excellent evidence - PCs and KS - and they are part of evidence requirements for a lot of units. I have some guidelines on how learners can write reflective accounts - if you give me your e mail address I will send them to you

Hi DeeDee and taffycaz,
Hooray! Someone who thinks like me. Of course you shouldn't be needing workbooks, the knowledge should be embedded in your performance evidence, in the observations, reflective accounts etc.
I have found that giving candidates an example of a reflective account can be very useful, I make mine up! based on my own working experiences as carer and manager.
Don't forget to use any relevant training, discuss this with your assessor and you will cover a lot of knowledge.
I would love to know which awarding bodies are accepting workbooks and shedloads of questions.
Any ideas?
Steadysue

Hi Joey - what is your job role? Not everyone can go on to do Level 4 - you need to be able to get the evidence needed - this qualification is very different to Level 3.

Hi deedee,

It's some time ago I know since your kind offer of an example of reflective account.

I would be most grateful to see the guidelines you recommend as I am working out the difference betwwen professional discussion which has no performance criteria credit
amd candidate statement which may do.
The questiion evidence when answered verbally is case of knowledge evidence only I believe.

Many thanks
andyrew

Hi ,
The guidelines I use are ones that I have written for my learners - if you give me your e mail address I will send you a copy. Professional discussion may cover some performance criteria, it depends on what you discuss! Professional discussion should be planned and recorded, it should be a structured discussion - the planning helps the learner to prepare. Be careful that you don't ask direct questions , ask the learner to "explain" or "discuss " the topic, rather than ask "what, how etc"

Hi DeeDee,
Please would you be good enough to send me your approach to writing a reflective account. Do you use a particular model?
