I would be interested if anyone has used an expert witness in the assessment process for HSC2or3 and their comments on meeting the criteria for the expert witness.

The expert witness is someone that is particularly going to be useful in 'specialized areas'. For example in 'clinical environments' where specific clinical activities such as 'Taking Blood' is best assessed by the person who gives the training and instruction to the Health Care Assistance.

This will not necessarily be the assessor. The assessor needs to ensure the expert witness understands the HSC Standards he or she is assessing the candididate against

I hope that helps

In social care I would see us using them for candidates in roles that involve expertise such as physio's or o.t.'s where generic care assessors may not be fully competent to assess.

Our plan is to ensure the expert witness has a full undertsanding of the relevant HSC unit which is actually less straight frward with revised standards as the 'therapies' unit is quite generic.

We have yet to use this in HSC awards but have identifed a few possible 'experts' and hope they will come on oard.

I think the expert witness is an invaluable concept and is as strong as a direct observation, just as the other posts suggest it is better for an expert/specialist to judge the performance, however and correct me if i am wrong:
1, the Expert witness has to provide a CV,certificates etc to be held on file at the assessment centre,
2,they have to have an L20/A1,or have quantifyable experience in assessing in the workplace(ie Apraisals, performance management).
3, the assessor then has to reference the testimony written by the expert against the standards.

soooo hands up all managers and supervisors who have time to comply with the above, i hope they are out there? seriously though, this is my take on the process,if anyone can suggest otherwise i would be gratefull.
