Explain why it is important to follow "Standard Precautions" when moving and positioning service user.

Give ONE example of a disagreement or conflict that may arise between the agreed risk assessment and the wishes of a service user in relation to moving and positioning.

Suggest TWO ways that a person's individual beliefs and preferences might affect the way that they like to be helped with moving position. Explain why it is important to be aware of these preferences and to follow them where possible.

Many thanks.

Hi cristy87

Its important to follow Standard Precautions when moving and handling as these are in place to keep the service user and yourself safe and so that the activity can be undertaken causing as little pain and discomfort as possible.

Example
The service users risk assessment may state that they need to use a walking frame when mobile, but the service user may not wish to use one.

Examples of individuals beliefs and preferences

choice between stand aid and a handling belt.
putting onown clothes and being aided.
grab bars to aid standing or handling belt.

Its important for the client to choose when possible as they will then be happier and feel more secure when being assisted to move.
