Hi valda,

Weakness or frailty - can't fight back.

Communication difficulties - cannot report abuse.

Mental and learning disabilities - confusion, lack of understanding.

Been abused before - seen as an easy target.

Age ie old/young - naivety, too trusting.

Isolation eg lives alone, no friends - no one to help, vulnerable.

Family breakdown - abusive relationships, financial abuse.

Poor care provision - abuse and neglect from staff.

Hope hat helps

Hi valda,

1. May be due to poor English so cannot explain a problem or could be cultural where women are subservient to men or could be inability to communicate well due to a stroke or illness. If they can't tell they might be seen a an easy target.

2 An individual who lives alone with no friends or family to confide in could be seen as an easy target.

3 Poor care provision - think of a recent example such as Ash Court Care Home. Poor training, poor monitoring of staff who are allowed to ignore procedures, overworked, dissatisfied staff who cut corners to get the job done etc.

Hope that helps

Hi valda,

Think about things such as -

Your written reports of what you saw, what witnesses said, what the individual said, body maps, notes you made - pass them to your management for safe keeping.

Physical objects and the environment - do not move, close off the room if possible.

Neglect - written reports, temperature readings etc, do not change the individual or the environment until a record of conditions has been made eg photos.

Hope that helps

Hi Valda,

1. Advice, guidance, information (or know where information can be found).

2 Information and advice on rules, regulations, and the setting's policies and procedures, provide training opportunities etc.

3 In depth information, Local Safeguarding Team, local policies and procedures.

This might help for your other question:

Hope that helps

Aunty Sue
