Hello,
Person centred values should have been covered in your Induction training and include things like respect so find your notes or workbook and use them. There is also a lot of info on countless websites, just google 'person centred values'. Same for consent. Check out your training.

Sorry more questions how do I as a social care worker ask for consent.

2) what I do I do if consent is not given

I figured the obvious by asking and if not given cant do anything I also figured you could go legal and advocacy ect anything else.

Thanks it's helpful

Don't swear me to it but if consent is not given surely it would be down to the circumstance. For example if an elderly person with dementia is forgetting to cook herself food and go shopping and you ask her if you can do her some food, she says no wouldn't you then have to relate to your duty of care which is the fact that she is self neglecting and has dementia and is forgetting to feed herself?

As I said don't hold me to it I'm just questioning I'm as stuck as you MILOZIM

Hello,
I'm guessing her dementia hasn't come on overnight so hopefully these problems will have been highlighted in care plan and by effective communication with line manager and, probably with someone living at home, their family.
Sadly even outside of 'care' there are a lot of people who self neglect, think of the smelly people you meet in the supermarket on a hot day, that's not a recent issue they have, think of the severely overweight who continue to eat to excess, it's their choice, we may not like it but we're not going to march them off to have a bath or stop them eating.
