Hi I need help with question ciii describe three factors that may make individuals more vulnerable to abuse than others?
So far I have people with learning disabilities as they may lack capacity and are more isolated than others. Any help/suggestions/tips will be greatly appreciated

Hello,
Get out your SOVA training handouts! This should have been covered in that.
It's not all necessarily types/groups of people, the factor you have identified is the lack of capacity not that person has learning disability.

Hi, you should have training in safeguarding read your work policies about safeguarding and ask your manager for training. It is mandatory for anyone working in health and social care. Katrina

Helo,
Fully agree with Katrina. You MUST have training in this. Sadly far too many employers are not providing mandatory training relying instead on the training providers who are delivering Diplomas. Very poor and letting untrained staff support or care for vulnerable people is shockingly bad practice.

My place of work provide mandatory Safeguarding training via the safeguarding board and they only issue a certificate once a workbook has been completed and signed off by a manager.

Nolan text-book is very helpful for this unit also

My answers to this question - assessor has signed off this unit.

The carer or staff team may contribute to an individual being more vulnerable to abuse if:
• Challenging behaviour by the person being cared for
• Carer too young/immature
• Carer may have an alcohol/drug dependency
• Carer may be suffering from disturbed sleep.
• Poor quality of staff training – lack of knowledge or understanding
• Inadequate staffing numbers
• Low staff morale
• Culture of bullying of staff members by management.

There may be a failure to report abuse which can lead to an individual being more vulnerable to abuse if the service user is:
• Too ill, too frail
• Do not understand what is happening to them
• Are ashamed and believe it is their own fault
• Threatened by abuser/afraid do not think they will be believed
• Does not believe anyone had the power to stop the abuse.
