Hi there,

I work in a setting looking after vulnerable adults with challenging behaviour, learning disabilities and other mental health needs. I am currently doing my NVQ Level 3 in HSC and was wondering if anybody knew of any case studies, either online or otherwise, that I can use to help me fill in some PC's or KS'.

I am doing the following units:

HSC31 - Promote effective communication for and about individuals

HSC33 - Reflect on and develop your practise

HSC35 - Promote choice, well-being and the protection of all individuals

HSC336 - Contribute to the prevention and management of abusive and aggressive behaviour

HSC364 - Identify the physical health needs of individuals with mental health needs

HSC369 - Support individuals with specific communication needs

HSC395 - Contribute to assessing and act upon risk of danger, harm and abuse.

I have HSC32 signed off already and I would really appreciate ANYTHING that would help me with the above units. I can give you my email address if anyone wants to send me an attachment.

Many Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom your assessor should have agreed and assessment plan with you of how they are going to observe you at work to cover most pc's and some Knowledge, other evidence you need to gather willbe refelctive accounts, witness testimony and some written work to cover the remaining evidence. look at the evidence requirements on each of your units and it will tell you what you need but assessor observation is always required. How many observations have been carried out already? plan with your assessor when this will take place, written information to help you with knowledge can be found in NVQ books, look on amazon website. Is your awarding body City and Guilds? katrina

Hi Tom,
There are some good examples on Smartscreen if you have access, also the Yvonne Nolan books are very useful.

we don't know what your questions are - we can guide you but if you are stuck on the whole lot then you should be talking to your assessor and explain that you are struggling. If you want to give some examples of your questions here then we will try and help you.

please help me to answer this...
how to encourage significant others to support the individual

Hi sheng,

When an individual is receiving professional care in a hospital, at home or in a residential setting, it can be quite off putting for some significant others (family etc.) who feel that they mustn't interfere even though they want to.

Some significant others feel that its just not their job to support the individual. They may visit and spend the time telling the individual all about their problems.

Some significant others would support the individual but they don't know how to.

How would you encourage them to understand that their support is valued and important?

Hope that helps

Aunty Sue
