My head is in a spin i work with adults with mild learning disabilities in supported living i have found numerous theories but am finding it difficult to relate these theories and how they affect the chaps i work with. as far as i am concerned they are all very confident and not too shy to let you know what they want and dont want. Help. this theory is holding me back as it also is related in HSC 35

Hi sue

a. According to the theory we grow and develop in milestones but we dont all reach every milestone because we all develop and grow differently. We are all different and never stop learning. However, physical or mental health can be factors in poor development of communication skills.

b. specific conditions and needs of service users are assessed and a care plan of action is written and carried out. e.g. Mental health, those suffering from dementia must have appropriate support.etc.

c. Maslow's hierarchy of needs summarises the range of human needs. It covers social, emotional and intellectual needs as well as the need to maintain physical health. A service user who can express their care needs, will have confidence and higher self esteem. When the service user is unable to voice their needs, this becomes a barrier, and self esteem may be lower as a result.

d examples of this could be limiting or denying choices like what they wear, when they would like a bath, what time the client wants to eat. To deny choice is abuse and is a denial of their basic rights.

Hope this helps
