Hi Teabag,
Im a relatively new assessor and have noticed that these themes are throughout a lot of units - so I have created a theories handout for my candidates and ask them to do a piece of work on theories which can be cross referanced back to.
The advice I give my candidates is to try and apply the theory to someone you have cared for e.g a person with a disability who has difficulty communicating, or someone who may have had an episode in care and missed out on the family life that most people have.
Human growth theory e.g Freud, Erikson, Bowlby, Bandura, Piaget, Vygotsky and maslow are people you need to look at. These theorists suggest in different ways that generally what and how we learn is influential in making us the people who we are today.
Self esteem and identity consider William James hierarchy, Cooley looking glass theory, Carl Rodgers theory of self and Markus and Nuris several ideal self.
Loss and changed can mean in respect of health, family, home and loss of automony. Consider Hulman resistance to change, Kotter 6 change approach and perhaps kubler-ross five stages of grief.
In regards to power, Social impact theory offers some insight into power within social settings and whether or not a person might speak out against the majority opinion.
I hope this helps in some way - I usually work within care homes, so home care is not my speciality but I hope this gives you the start off you and others need regarding theories, since they are frutratingly repetitative!! |
