Is it really true that they are phasing out the NVQ qualification, and assessors will no longer be required.

I have spent the last 6 months hunting for a job and now I am worried the job I have found may only be short term. I cant afford to leave a stable job to work as an assessor if I may not have it in 12 months.

Anyone know whats going on?

They will exist in some shape and form tbh. No one really knows what is going to happen. A1 will remain a good qualification to happen. I am already looking ahead as to what I may need and it looks like Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) will be the minimum required.

Remember the A1 is not just about assessing NVQs. They are about assessing competence.

Your best bet is to have a look at http://www.qca.org.uk/ and city and guilds for more information on the above.

There is an excellent article in April edition of Care Mangement Matters although no mention of how assessors fit in the scheme! One thing is certain, change is on it's way!

I am just about to start my assessors training and reading your posts I am wondering if it will be worth it. I have a level 4 in health and social care and thought that gaining the A1 would be the way to go for me. I am funding this qualification myself as the manager in the home where I work already has this qualification and does in house assessing. I was thinking this award would be a good addition to the qualifications I already have but £600 is a lot of money to pay out if it's going to be wasted. I have a week or make my mind up so I'd better read up on this.
