Hi all, I'm also a new member.

I'm also new to NVQ and have been put straight in for NVQ4 - wow it's not easy when you don't understand the process of NVQs.

Referencing up has been my biggest problem and knowing how to approach the reporting stages too!

It'll be a miracle if I pass. And at 57 my grey cells are disappearing fast!!

Hi chris,

You need to speak to your assessor and he/she should explain the processes to you.

Don't lose heart and remember the best way to stop your grey cells from disappearing is to use them!

If we can help you we will.

Hope that helps

Aunty Sue (also 57)

I'm just embarking on my level 4 in care, I have completed my 2 & 3 so I should hopefully have a good idea in what I have let myself in for! Actually I wasn't that concerned until I stumbled onto this forum.... Now I'm petrified!
One thing I have noticed already, is how hard it is to find a report for HSC43 that is relevant to my role, ie I actually understand what it is going on about! (I'm a manager for a Home Care Agency. Elderly/Frail) I have found a few reports on CSCI's website which I think will be useful.
Does anyone else have any other good resources?

Many thanks

Dee

www.businessballs.com - for theories

www.kirwinmaclean.com - for books. Also look at Amazon.

Reports to be aware of:
Cornwall report
Soham Report
Baby P enquiry
Shipman Enquiry

Loads more but cant remember the names of them off the top of my head.

Hi
How did you get on? I am just starting my NVQ4 and am frightened to death by the huge pack I've been given. I did 20 years in London in management and recently moved and took up a Deputy Manager post in Cambs and now have to get qualifications to go with my experience. I have not been in a structured learning setting like this since I left school over 30 years ago!! Tell me it's achieveable someone!!!

Hi Teresa

Of course it's achievable.

With your 20 years in management you should have no problems. It's just a case of seeing through all the jargon and long words that the people who write the standards like to use.

It really is quite straightforward, look on it as a competency interview - which it is. Read what the standards are asking and then think "what evidence can I produce to demonstrate my competence in that?"

You have a head start being able to write good english!

Dave
