I have read the French and Raven theory, and yes i understand it abit, but what is it's uses and misuses in a care setting

Stages in managing a conversation with someone who is angry
Stay calm
Try to calm the other person using appropriate non-verbal behaviour
Build trust and meet the other person's self esteem needs
Negotiate and try and solve problems

communication with a distressed person:
Minimising background noise and distractions (e.g. TV/Radio)
Arrange the immediate environment to ensure privacy,
talk clearly and slowly, ensure they have understood,
active listening skills showing you are interested
non verbal skills such as a friendly facial gestures, touch (if appropriate),
allow person plenty of time to respond and ask questions

Supervision after incident
May help care staff deal with similar incidents better in future
may reduce stress felt by involved care workers and chance to chat about incident means they can off load their feelings
